- W2034304028 abstract "Because of their thermomechanical and nuclear peculiarities some ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), i.e. carbon fibre reinforced carbon composites (CFC), carbon, fibre reinforced silicon carbide composites (Cf/SiC) and silicon carbide fibre reinforced silicon carbide composites (SiCf/Sic) are candidate materials for high temperature applications and for the plasma-facing components of the future thermonuclear reactors. The need of building up complex and large parts requires new joining techniques because the mechanical joining solutions have notable limitations due to the load concentrations around bolt and rivet holes. There is, therefore, a strong need for the development of suitable joining techniques. Several joining materials (pure metals, rheocast alloys and glasses) were chosen according to thermomechanical and low activation requirements. The composites were pressureless joined together by brazing or solid-state reactions and the joined specimens were characterised by microstructural and mechanical analyses." @default.
