It has been shown that the two forms of virus have similar anhydrous partial specific volumes, similar hydrated effective partial specific volumes in sucrose solution and that the behavior of both during sedimentation under great osmotic stress is linear. It has been demonstrated for the first time, by two procedures, that the difference in So20,w is accounted for by a difference in the effective hydrodynamic diameters of the “slow” and “fast” forms. Sedimentation in solutions of sucrose reveals diameters of 72.7 and 79.3 mμ; evaluation of So20,w and Vs reveals diameters of 74.3 and 84.0 mμ, respectively." @default.
