- W2034874790 abstract "Abstract The process of excimer formation in molecular crystals is studied through a model calculation of the vibrational relaxation of a non-linear oscillator. The crystal is modelled as a linear chain of molecules interacting via harmonic forces with the exception of the excimer-forming molecular pair. This pair has the same harmonic interaction as the rest of the chain when electronically unexcited but, when excited, is assumed to interact via a highly non-linear force. We treat both the case of a single spring constant throughout the unexcited chain and that of two alternating spring constants. We solve the classical problem of the relaxation of the pair for various forms of the non-linearity and discuss the relaxation time, early time spectra, and related issues." @default.
