- W2034882213 abstract "We present time-dependent chemical models of dark, dense interstellar clouds and describe the main processes by which molecules form. We show that neutral carbon atoms play an important part not only in the formation of hydrocarbon species, but also in the destruction of O2 and NO. Since this latter molecule leads to N2, both O2 and N2 are low in regions in which CI is abundant. We have also calculated models in which accretion of the gas on to grains is included and one model which assumes that a mechanism exists for returning CO and N to the gas. This calculation shows the interesting result that molecule formation from these species is sufficiently fast to overcome accretion. In general it is apparent that molecular abundances calculated for |$twidetilde{lt}{10}^{6}$| do not agree well with those observed in TMC-1. The steady-state abundances,|$twidetilde{gt}{10}^{7}$| , do, however, show reasonable agreement with observation. Finally, the calculations indicate that CH2CO and CCN might be detectable in TMC-1." @default.
