- W2035152068 abstract "Radiation therapy is often used to treat axillary masses. At our cancer centre, the standard patient position is supine on a chestboard with both arms abducted. For patients unable to raise their upper extremity, the arm is positioned akimbo with the ipsilateral elbow resting on a foam wedge. The inherent mobility of the upper extremity makes patient setup reproducibility a challenge, often manifesting as a need for multiple cone beam computed tomography scans (CBCTs), patient re-positioning and increased treatment times. It is our hypothesis that the foam wedge immobilization will prove inferior to that of the chestboard and that our results will support further investigation into the development of a more stable set-up solution for this patient group. Daily CBCTs were examined for ten patients treated between June 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014 with five patients positioned on the chestboard with arms abducted and five patients treated with the ipsilateral arm resting akimbo on a foam wedge. The following data was collected and recorded for comparison: the magnitude of translational and rotational offsets, the number of CBCTs taken for setup, time between first and second CBCT (if applicable), and time between CBCT and initiation of treatment delivery. Data between the two different setups will be compared and analyzed. Data analysis and comparison between the two immobilization techniques is currently in progress. We hope to gain an improved understanding of the complexities of the akimbo setup and its impact on set-up reproducibility and treatment efficiency. Following implementation of our chosen alternate immobilization device, we will further examine CBCT data for evidence in setup improvement." @default.
