As in morphological traits the hybrid plants showed intermediacy in the sesquiterpene lactone chemistry owing to the additivity of the parental patterns. Moreover, new sesquiterpene lactones were found in the F1-generation, in addition to known compounds of both parents. Chemical analysis of two new compounds by means of 1 H NMR and mass spectrometry revealed them as biosynthetic chimeras formed by a combination of the basic skeleton of the one parent with the side chain of the other parental species." @default.
