- W2035593464 abstract "MA/lany established cell lines of mouse origin, particularly strain L cells, are chronically infected with viruslike particles. Although morphologically indistinguishable from RNA tumor viruses,1-3 these do not induce tumors in animals nor do they transform normal mouse cells in vitro. The experiments presented here demonstrate that L-cell virions share properties other than morphologic similarity with RNA tumor viruses. In contrast to prototype L cells, the L-1 subline is maintained without serum supplementation of the culture medium.4 cells are also free of externally budding virions and contain only few, if any, immature or mature type-C particles,2 which are generally considered the infectious units of RNA tumor viruses. However, L-M cells are converted into a virion-producing line when grown in serum-containing medium.2 The time sequence of this conversion has now been determined." @default.
