- W2036745534 abstract "Ecotoxicology aims at assessing possible ecological hazards which environmental chemicals may pose on the structure and functioning of ecosystems. Results of a field study on the impact of a pesticide, the carbamate insecticide Aldicarb, on two initially rather similar experimental successional ecosystems are presented. By adopting a baseline-ecosystem approach it could be shown that the corresponding sub-systems (soil microflora, soil mesofauna, nitrogen budget) were partly differently affected in a ruderal ecosystem and in a grassland ecosystem, due to their progressively diverging succession. It is concluded that, when trying to assess a chemical's impact on other ecosystems, in any case uncertainties will remain as an inevitable consequence of ecosystem uniqueness. Hence, besides the necessary improvement of terrestrial ecosystem test systems, the evaluation and regulatory procedures have to take into account this situation." @default.
