• W2037217870 abstract "The purpose of this study was to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the Disability of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire to Spanish for Puerto Rico. Five steps were followed for the cross-cultural adaptation: forward translations into Spanish for Puerto Rico, synthesis of the translations, back translations into English, revision by an expert committee, and field test of the prefinal version. Psychometric characteristics of reliability and construct validity were evaluated for the final version. Internal consistency of the final version was high (Cronbach's α=0.97) and item-to-total correlations were moderate (range from 0.44 to 0.85). Construct validity was evaluated by correlating the DASH with the scales of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Breast. Fair to moderate correlations found in this study between the DASH and most scales of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Breast support the construct validity of the Puerto Rico–Spanish DASH. The final version of the questionnaire was revised and approved by the Institute for Work and Health of Canada. Revisions to the original DASH English version are recommended. This version of the DASH is valid and reliable, and it can be used to evaluate outcomes in both clinical and research settings. Zweck der vorliegenden Studie war die interkulturelle Anpassung des Fragebogens ‘Disability of Arm, Shoulder and Hand’ (DASH) in die spanische Sprache für Puerto Rico. Dabei wurden folgende fünf Schritte berücksichtigt: Übersetzungen ins Spanische für Puerto Rico, Synthese der Übersetzungen, Rückübersetzungen ins Englische, Prüfung durch ein Sachverständigengremium und Feldversuche mit der vorletzten Ausführung. Die psychometrischen Eigenschaften Zuverlässigkeit und Konstruktvalidität wurden für die Endfassung beurteilt. Die interne Konsistenz der Endfassung war hoch (Cronbach's α=0.97), die Item-to-Total-Korrelationen waren mäßig (zwischen 0.44 und 0.85). Die Konstruktvalidität wurde per Korrelation von DASH und den Skalen der Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT-B) bewertet. Die leichten bis mäßigen Korrelationen, die in der vorliegenden Studie zwischen dem DASH und den meisten Skalen der Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT-B) aufgezeigt wurden, belegen die Konstruktvalidität des DASH im puertoricanischen Spanisch. Die Endfassung des Fragebogens wurde vom Institute for Work and Health of Canada geprüft und genehmigt. Änderungen am DASH in der englischen Originalversion werden empfohlen. Diese DASH-Ausführung ist gültig und zuverlässig und mit ihr lassen sich die Ergebnisse im klinischen Bereich und im Forschungsbereich beurteilen. El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar una adaptación transcultural al español puertorriqueño del cuestionario sobre las discapacidades del brazo, del hombro, y de la mano (Disability of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand – DASH). La adaptación transcultural constó de cinco pasos: traducciones al español puertorriqueño, síntesis de las traducciones, retrotraducción al inglés, revisión por un comité de expertos, y prueba de campo de la versión provisional. Se evaluaron las características psicométricas de confiabilidad y validez de la versión definitiva del instrumento. La consistencia interna de la versión definitiva fue elevada (alfa de Cronbach: α=0.97) y las correlaciones entre cada elemento del cuestionario y el resto de ellos (item-to-total) fueron moderadas (de entre 0.44 y 0.85). La validez del instrumento se evaluó correlacionando el DASH con las escalas de valoración funcional del tratamiento anticanceroso en pacientes con cáncer de mama (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Breast). Las correlaciones de ligeras a moderadas halladas en este estudio entre el DASH y la mayoría de las escalas del Funcional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Breast respaldan la validez del instrumento DASH en español puertorriqueño. La versión final del cuestionario fue revisada y aprobada por el Instituto de Trabajo y Salud de Canadá. Se recomienda revisar la versión original del DASH en inglés. La versión del DASH estudiada es válida y confiable y puede utilizarse en la evaluación de resultados, tanto en contextos clínicos como investigativos. Cette étude avait pour objet d'effectuer une adaptation multiculturelle du questionnaire d'incapacité du bras, de l'épaule et de la main (Questionnaire DASH – membres supérieurs) en espagnol pour Porto Rico. L'adaptation multiculturelle s'est déroulée en 5 étapes : traduction en espagnol portoricain, synthèse des traductions, traductions arrière en anglais, révision par un comité d'experts et test sur le terrain de la version préfinale. Les caractéristiques psychométriques de fiabilité et la validité de construction ont été évaluées pour la version finale. La cohérence interne de la version finale était élevée (alpha de Cronbach=0.97) et les corrélations article/total étaient modérées (fourchette de 0.44 à 0.85). La validité de construction a été évaluée par corrélation entre le DASH et les barèmes d'évaluation fonctionnelle de la thérapie du cancer du sein. Les corrélations faibles à modérées identifiées dans cette étude entre le DASH et la plupart des barèmes d'évaluation fonctionnelle de la thérapie du cancer du sein soutiennent la validité de construction du DASH en espagnol portoricain. La version finale du questionnaire a été révisée et approuvée par Institut de Recherche sur le Travail et la Santé du Canada. Des révisions de la version anglaise originale du DASH sont recommandés.
