- W2037228844 abstract "The filtration efficiency of textile fibres against submicrometre airborne particles can be considerably augmented in the fibres are polarized by an external electric field. A filter that works in this way can be produced as a sandwich of dielectric fibres between two layers of conducting fibres. The filter, being flexible, could be used in geometrical forms that allow a large effective area and, therefore, a low filtration velocity, which increases filtration efficiency by electric forces. It is necessary that the outer layers of fibres be sufficiently conducting to allow the development of a uniform electric potential throughout the layer when they are connected to a terminal, but not high enough to allow shorting between the electrodes. Fibres made from semi-conducting material generally satisfy this requirement, and continue to do so when they form a small component of a mixture with insulating fibres. The dielectric fibre should be easily polarizable, and nylon 66 fulfils this requirement." @default.
