- W2037242547 abstract "Abstract Theoretical examples of overlapping absorption bands are given. It is shown that the non-appearance of peaks or shoulders in an absorption band cannot be a sufficient condition for the absence of a simple equilibrium of different species. From this point of view the apparent discrepancy in band type between recent papers in ir HOD spectra and H 2 O spectra in the near-IR could be understood. It is shown that the HOD spectra in the region 1.3–1.8 μ have both types of bands. These HOD spectra have one band with evident peaks of different species and another band without any peaks or shoulders. A comparison with the theoretical band-overlapping shows that both types of bands can be caused by different values of frequency shift between the band of non-H-bonded molecules and the H-bonded ones. This gives the simplest interpretation of the different results and shows that both groups of experiments are in agreement." @default.
