- W2038832052 abstract "Benomyl, MBC, thiabendazole and tridemorph applied as seed dressings resulted in reductions of up to 30% in phenylalanine-ammonia lyase (PAL) activity in 10-day-old barley seedlings. Thiophanate methyl reduced PAL activity by 10% but carboxin had no significant effect. In glasshouse and field experiments PAL activity in plants treated with benomyl applied as seed treatments or soil drenches decreased with increasing concentrations. In these experiments there was no significant effect on total phenol content following treatment with any of these compounds. PAL activity in bean hypocotyls was reduced by application of benomyl to the soil. Wounding increased PAL activity and total phenol content of hypocotyls excised from untreated plants. PAL also increased in wounded hypocotyls excised from plants treated with benomyl but the increases were much smaller than those observed from untreated plants and did not result in significant increases in phenol concentration. The significance of these findings in relation to the effect of these fungicides on plant disease resistance is discussed." @default.
