- W2038852064 abstract "Abstract A dilution study of 2-methyl-6- t -butylphenol (2M6TBP) in the mixed solvent CHCl 3 /C 6 H 12 and of chloroform in 2M6TBP/C 6 H 12 indicates strongly that CHCl 3 and 2M6TBP form a hydrogen-bonded complex so as to locate the chloroform CH proton perpendicular to the benzene ring in 2M6TBP. The thermodynamic and proton NMR data for this interaction have been evaluated. The K ass , Δ H , Δ S and δ x values have been calculated for the 1:1 association between 2M6TBP and various phosphoryl compounds in chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and cyclohexane. The apparent association constants are found to be considerably smaller in CHCl 3 than in CCl 4 and C 6 H 12 . In average the K ass values are 20 times less in CHCl 3 than in CCl 4 and 150 times than in C 6 H 12 . The decrease of the apparent association constant on going from C 6 H 12 to CCl 4 and CHCl 3 has been shown to be due to competitive equilibria between solvent and solutes. The NMR chemical shift, δ x , of the donor proton in a hydrogen bond has been found to be very dependent on the solvent." @default.
