- W2038962680 abstract "Abstract In this study, melting and glass transition behavior of poly(4-vinylphenol)-N, N-dimethyl-n-alkylamine (PVPh-Cn) mixtures are investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Here, n represents the number of carbon atoms in the alkyi chain. The n-dependence of melting temperature and heat and fusion of the mixtures follow the equations that describe those of linear polyethylenes. Further, to form crystalline structures of stoichiometric aggregates between the repeating unit of PVPh and Cn, n values larger man 11 (n c) are needed. These behaviors are closely similar to comb-shaped polymers. Therefore, it is concluded that the n-dependence of melting behavior of associating polymer-surfactant mixtures is the same as that of comb-shaped polymers. Compositional changes of melting and glass transition temperature in the PVPh-Cn mixtures in which n > n c indicate that Cn having relatively large n are able to crystallize for even minor mole fractions of Cn, whereas Cn having relatively small n cannot crystallize. This result is explained in terms of volume fraction and end-group contributions of Cn in PVPh-Cn mixtures. In addition, it is found that the compositional dependence of T g of PVPh-Cn mixtures in which n < n c show similar behavior to the n-dependence of T g of comb-shaped polymers." @default.
