GOODRICH The author was educated in the city schools at Jackson, Mich., and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1937 from the University of Michigan, Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Upon graduation, he served in various capacities in the engine rooms of Gulf Oil Corporation tankers, followed by a year as a machinist in the employ of Bethlehem Steel Company, Sparrows Point, in Maryland. In 1940 he joined the Todd Shipyards Corporation, Tacoma Division, where he was employed in various engineering capacities and eventually as Chief Engineer from 1943 to 1945, at which time he was transferred to the Seattle Division of Todd Shipyards Corporation, serving as General Superintendent and then as Assistant General Manager until 1956. In April of that year he was appointed to the position of General Manager of the Los Angeles Division, in which capacity he is now serving. In addition to The American Society of Naval Engineers, Inc., included among his many memberships in professional and civic organizations are The Navy League of the United States and The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, in which latter society he is on the Executive Committee and serves as a Member of Council.Search for more papers by this author JAMES F.
