- W2039352110 abstract "Summary Falling in old people is a major source of injury and death and presents a particular challenge for physiotherapists. However, the literature contains few accounts of successful intervention strategies for falls prevention and the maintenance of stability. This review of research on the association between one risk factor — poor lower limb muscle strength — and falling in old age, points to a possible strategy for physiotherapy intervention. In much of the research it is unclear which muscle groups have been tested and how it was done. But the few studies where details are given indicate that lower limb muscle weakness, especially in the ankle dorsiflexors, may be an important risk factor. Physiotherapists can use this information to develop and evaluate falls prevention programmes." @default.
