- W2039477987 abstract "The behavior of aerosol particles in viscous and thermal boundary layers is analyzed. It is shown that the relaxation times of particles for heat transfer are larger than for rotations. The rotation results in a fraction of the particles being in thermal non-equilibrium with the fluid. Particles rotating faster than their thermal relaxation frequency have uniform surface temperatures and their deposition by thermophoresis is strongly inhibited. The cut-off size of particles for thermophoretic deposition is determined both for laminar and turbulent boundary layers and shown to be proportional to the reciprocal of free stream velocity. In high velocity flows all particles for which the Knudsen number is small are prevented from thermophoretic deposition due to rotations." @default.
