- W2040183679 abstract "To the Editor:— As an obstetrician, I have read with interest the paper of Nora et al, Maternal Exposure to Potential Teratogens ( 202 : 1065, 1967). I believe the paper poses several questions, the first being the criteria used by the authors for the selection of potential teratogens. Since the apparent criteria were hazards known to be or suspected of being teratogenic to man or other species, I wonder why their list did not include such potential as cosmic rays, high altitudes, emotional upsets, inadequate diets, amplified sounds, etc? Indeed, a list of agents which are not potential would be most useful to obstetricians. Despite the fact that the authors' data failed to demonstrate a positive correlation between teratogens and major anomalies, they still have admonished physicians to decrease the exposure of pregnant women to drugs. Since I assume that all of the drugs prescribed in the authors' study" @default.
