- W2040299276 abstract "Several stages in a metallographic polishing procedure in combination with an electrochemical pretreatment have been investigated with regard to the performance of glassy-carbon electrodes in the electrochemical detection of adrenaline. Depending on the polishing procedure applied, the electrode surface becomes more or less deactivated during its use. Extensive polishing is shown to yield a reactive surface which is very sensitive towards adsorption. The degree of adsorption and deactivation may be significantly reduced by a subsequent electrochemical pretreatment, as could be observed from voltammograms. Differences in the observed behaviour of differently polished electrodes can be ascribed to differences in the size of active and blocked sites on the glassy-carbon surface. The influence of polishing and electrochemical pretreatment on the S/N ratios in liquid chromatography with amperometric detection of adrenaline is demonstrated. Optimum electrode performance was obtained by the combination of a polishing procedure (involving particles of size smaller than or equal to 6 μm) and an electrochemical pretreatment consisting of a limited number (10–30) of linear potential scans from 0 to + 1.5 V (vs. SCE)." @default.
