- W2040368104 abstract "Abstract SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) and two-dimensional (isoelectro-focusing and SDS) PAGE demonstrated several minor polypeptides (pHMW, p73, p42, p40, p36) as well as the commonly known major ones within rabies virus preparations of the HEP-Flury strain grown on BHK cells or chick embryo fibroblasts. A similar polypeptide pattern was obtained in another fixed virus, the ERA strain. Among them, p42 was identified as acting of cellular origin as determined by the following data: 1) p42 was only radioactive when viral replication took place in prelabeled cells under a chasing condition; 2) p42 showed the same mobility in SDS-PAGE; 3) the same isoelectric point (pI, ∼5.4); and 4) a similar tryptic peptide map as seen in actin isolated from BHK cell. Treatment of intact virions with protease or iodination with lactoperoxidase resulted in the evidence that the viral actin was not exposed on the exterior of the virion. It was also suggested that p42 is a constituent of the viral envelope rather than of nucleocapsid, because of its solubility with a nonionic detergent. In contrast, vesicular stomatitis virus, another representative member of the rhabdovirus group, was found to lack actin. The significance of these findings is discussed in association with intracellular distribution of actin filaments." @default.
