- W2040587146 abstract "Abstract Polyethylene glycol (PEG) 600, while apparently without effect on the mean carotid blood pressure of the anesthetized dog when administered iv, produced enhancement of the blood pressure responses to epinephrine (Epi), norepinephrine (NE) and acetylcholine (ACh). Peg 200, 300 and 400 also produced enhancement of the blood pressure responses elicited by Epi and ACh with the following order of potency: PEG 400 > PEG 600 > PEG 300 > PEG 200. Epi-induced responses were not enhanced in the perfused hind limb of the dog, whereas those to ACh were augmented. Ganglionic blockade did not prevent the PEG-induced enhancement of Epi and ACh. Beta adrenergic blockade, employed to eliminate the cardiac component of the increase in blood pressure produced by Epi, prevented the PEG 600-induced enhancement of Epi. It was concluded therefore that PEG 600 produced an enhancement of the response to ACh through an effect on the peripheral vasculature, whereas the increase in Epi-induced responses was due to an effect on the heart. Consideration of the biological activity of the PEG's should be taken into account before using them as vehicles for agents which are being studied for their effect on peripheral autonomic and cardiovascular systems." @default.
