- W2040697424 abstract "The physics of shocks and eddies in various flows of cosmic matter is reviewed. A brief account of the hydrodynamical approach to cosmology and cosmogony is given in its historic development (Section 1). Rotational properties of disc galaxies, giant molecular clouds, and star complexes are described (Section 2). Linear and nonlinear hydrodynamical mechanisms of the generation of vorticity in cosmic hydronamics are studied. Analytic solutions, order-of-magnitude estimates, and hydrodynamical computer simulations are presented for four basic processes: interaction of an irrotational flow with a curved shock front (Section 3); scattering of weak irrotational perturbations on plane fronts of large-scale shocks (Section 4); strong shock-shock collisions with the formation of complex system of eddies (Section 5), breakdown of barotropy and hydrodynamical instability of the tangential discontinuity against non-barotropic perturbations (Section 6). On these grounds, it is demonstrated that nonlinear hydrodynamics with shocks and eddies can contribute effectively to galactic cosmogony, especially to the problem of the origin of rotation of spirals; to the studies of the origin and dynamics of giant molecular clouds and huge star complexes in disc galaxies; to the search for the nature of superassociations; and to the problem of star formation and supersonic outflows around young stars." @default.
