- W2040726356 abstract "Abstract Many problems in the management of burns which are peculiar to the care of infants and children are discussed. Note is made of the variation in fluid requirements and blood values in infants and children. Emphasis is placed upon the correlation of the local care of the burned area with the general care of the burned child, and advantages of exposure treatment, immediate excision or enzymatic treatment of deep burns followed by grafting of skin are set down. The value of homografting of skin in selected cases is emphasized. The prevention of contractures is dealt with briefly. A test for the determination of areas of thermal trauma both in lateral extension and in depth is recorded (Goulian's test). There is need for further reports on experiences with burns in children, especially in relation to mortality rates (related to age and percentage of involvement), periods of morbidity and frequency of occurrence of crippling deformities." @default.
