- W2040808323 abstract "Partial $L$-shell fluorescence yields of 23 heavy elements have been measured using an x-ray coincidence counting method. Vacancies in the $K$ shell of the target atoms are created by photoelectric absorption of 122- and 136-keV gamma rays emitted by a ${mathrm{Co}}^{57}$ source. A known fraction of these $K$-shell vacancies are filled by $L$ electrons. The $L$-shell vacancies created in this way are then occupied by electrons from higher shells, causing emission of $L$ x rays and Auger electrons. The coincidence rate between the $L$ and $K$ x rays determines the fluorescence yield ${ensuremath{omega}}_{mathrm{KL}}$, which is defined as the partial $L$-shell fluorescence yield following the emission of ${K}_{ensuremath{alpha}}$ x rays. ${ensuremath{omega}}_{mathrm{KL}}$ is a linear combination of the fluorescence yields of the ${L}_{mathrm{II}}$ and ${L}_{mathrm{III}}$ subshells.
