- W2040944265 abstract "Increasing the food production to feed the world, while decreasing losses of agrochemical products due to environmental conditions, have been pointed out as one of the main problems in agricultural production. This paper aims to contribute to lessen these problems, using plant analysis as a diagnostic tool. The Diagnostic and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) has been used to interpret N, P and K concentrations in plants. This system has been working efficiently to interpret laboratory results than a single critical value. In our study, DRIS indices were calculated for sugarcane grown on soils from two sites in México. In a greenhouse experiment, 4 rates (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha−1) of N, P and K, combined in 12 treatments were applied to the soil. Starting from the youngest leaf, the 3rd and 5th leaves were analyzed for these nutrients and DRIS indices were calculated. The recommended treatments from these indices were applied, and the results were evaluated using the dry matter production, and finally compared to reference values. N, P and K were applied as the indices indicated plant needs. Highly significant responses were obtained without applying more fertilizer than needed. According to the results in this experiment, the DRIS approach, which has been demonstrated to work well in many crops for diagnosing deficiencies, can also be used to determine fertilizer needs. The application of the DRIS system allows to control fertilizer inputs to the soil, leading to an increase in production, when only the needed elements are applied." @default.
