- W2040981948 abstract "Several nuees ardentes deposits, all in a subduction context (Lesser Antilles, Central America, Washington-U.S.A., Kamchatka, Indonesia) are compared. All these tephra are andesitic to dacitic and have a typical calc-alkaline minerology.A new classification is proposed on the basis of glass-grain morphology and grain-size analyses of the deposits.Glass grains are of two contrasting types: angular fragments considered as old pulverized mesostases and pumiceous shards, products of new magma.Median of the ash fraction ( − O) is finer than 0.5 mm (> 1 O) for the nuees ardentes s.s, and coarser than 0.4 mm. (< 1.25 O) for avalanches.
