- W2040985963 abstract "Double-pigtail, intemal ureteral stents have a well established role in the treatment of ureteral obstruction [1 ]. Basic design and commonly accepted techniques for insertion have been described [2-6]. Stents in current use are fabricated from silicone elastorners rather than polyethylene or polyurethane. Silicone stents are more comfortable, more flexible, and less prone to encrustation. However, their increased flexibility is a significant disadvantage when inserting the stent percutaneously in an antegrade manner, since the increased flexibility increases friction and causes the stent to buckle like an accordion over the guide wire when attempting to pass areas of tight stenosis. To overcome this difficulty I designed a stent insertion sheath with an integral coaxial dilator (Druy Silicone Stent Set: SUSS-7.0-NT-UNIV; Cook, Bloomington, IN), which not only dilates any obstructions but also permits easy, low-resistance passage of commercially available, flexible silicone stents." @default.
