- W2041128173 abstract "Study Objective: To describe the X-ray appearance of the Essure micro insert after 5 years follow up. Design: Retrospective observational study. Setting: Gynecological Department, Palagi Frestanding, Firenze, Italy. Patients: From the start of September 2004, the first 23 women (mean age 39 years) with successful hysteroscopic bilateral placement of the ESSURE devices and post procedure satisfactory HSG confirmation test after 3 months were included in the study. None of these 23 women have become pregnant during 60 months follow up. Sixty months after the procedure, a pelvic antero-posterior X-ray was again performed to all women by the same gynaecologist/radiologist (BC) on the same fluoroscopy table with digital spot films. Intervention: Both Essure devices were readily identified with X-ray and the stability of their position, the symmetrical appearance and the distance between the two devices were compared with the same details recorded at 3 months follow up. Measurements and Main Results: The visibility of both devices was perfect as well as the alignment of the four markers. No detachment or fracture of the device was observed. The recognition of the device by its X-ray imaging after 5 years with similar findings to 3 months follow up, outlines that the micro insert of nickel - titanium alloy maintains its predetermined shape and is resistant to dislodgement for the stability of tissue in-growth occurred following placement. Conclusion: This is the first report on pelvic x-ray assessment of the Essure micro-inserts after so long time from the procedure, and outlines the successful use of FDA protocol as a first line screening tool for correct placement of the ESSURE device 3 months after hysteroscopic sterilisation and any other imaging methods are later unnecessary to evaluate proper essure localization." @default.
