- W2041766512 abstract "(1) Electrical stimulation of the caudal medulla in monkeys evoked two splanchnic nerve responses differing in latency and amplitude. The second or late response accounted for most of the evoked nerve activity. (2) The shortest latency responses were evoked from stimulation of nucleus reticularis ventralis (RV). Electrolytic lesions of the more rostral vasoactive areas resulted in fiber degeneration in RV. No degeneration was found in the intermediate area of the thoracic cord. It was concluded that RV serves as the last relay in the medulla of the pathway mediating splanchnic nerve activity. (3) Large amplitude responses, but of slightly longer latency than those seen in the stimulation of RV, were evoked from stimulation of the anterior portion of nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) and the intermediate part of nucleus reticularis parvocellularis (RP). NTS and RP are mutually involved in baroceptor and splanchnic nerve activity. Thus, a potential pathway exists from these nuclei to RV for the reflex regulation of blood pressure." @default.
