- W2041792048 abstract "The infrared photodissociation of size-selected (SF6)itn van der Waals clusters has been investigated in the region of the monomer ν3 vibration at 948 cm−1 using a pulsed CO2 laser. Cluster-specific spectroscopy was performed by scattering the (SF6)itn cluster beam with a secondary Ne beam and observing the effect of the laser irradiation off-axis with a rotatable mass spectrometer. The dependence of IR absorption and subsequent dissociation on laser frequency and fluence has been investigated as a function of cluster size for n = 2, 3 and 4. The predissociation spectrum of the dimer shows two peaks which correspond to the excitation of the ν3 vibration parallel and perpendicular to the intermolecular axis. While the trimer spectrum is characterized by three absorption lines, the tetramer contributes again with two lines which are, however, much broader. The fluence dependence measurements clearly show that the two-level-plus-decay model is not adequate to describe the absorption and dissociation properly." @default.
