- W2042100809 abstract "Abstract A computational-theoretical approach was used to determine the flow profiles in a thin film adhered to a solid surface which is continuously removed from a liquid bath. The case under study assumes large capillary numbers, NCa, meaning that inertial forces are predominant over capillary forces. Results are used to prove that under these conditions, the equations of motion loose their capacity to feed information upstream, thus the problem becomes an initial value problem independent of the conditions downstream of the liquid bath. Many different velocity profiles were fed as initial conditions, and computations were carried using an implicit finite-difference method until either an asymptotic solution for large distances from the liquid bath was reached or computations showed a physically unacceptable behavior. Those initial velocity profiles which could be carried forward, showed that a delicate balance between viscous, gravitational, and inertial forces was necessary in order for the velocity profiles to be continuously accelerated. Moreover, it is possible to explain on macroscopical basis the fact that for large removal speeds the dimensionless flow rate of the liquid adhered to the solid surface becomes independent of the Capillary number, NCa." @default.
