- W2042240973 abstract "Abstract Early childhood educators have for some time now questioned approaches to education that focus solely on the development of thinking and rational cogitation, and have begun to favour dispositional frameworks in preference to learning frameworks. However, there is little evidence to suggest that dispositional frameworks have been utilised in religious education with early years’ students in faith based contexts. This paper describes and discusses five possible learning dispositions: curiosity, being dialogical, persisting and living with uncertainty, meaning‐making, and taking responsibility, which may form a dispositional framework for religious education in Catholic primary schools. While the intention of the use of this dispositional framework is with students in their first formal years of schooling, it is recognised that it may have application for older students in the Catholic primary school context. The dispositional framework developed in this paper emanates from a larger ongoing project funded by the Victorian Bishops’ Grant for Excellence in Religious Education. The research team presently consists of the author and members of the Catholic Education Office Melbourne. 2. The research team were eager to refine the domains of learning dispositions as outlined by Carr (Citation2001) so that they would have a clear relevance for religious education with years’ students in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. 3. While the notion of ‘what if’ play has relevance for other types of Scripture stories, for example Sacred Stories, as well as for other aspects of religious education, such as Liturgical Actions, it is particularly appropriate for Parable stories in which prevailing worldviews are challenged, and the unthinkable is provoked." @default.
