- W2043502184 abstract "Spent liquor from industrial high-yield bisulfite pulping was biodegiaded in a 20-litre reactor system consisting of two unequal chemostats in series. The purpose was to study, for a fixed total volume, the variation of the overall biodégradation performance with the volume ratio of the first chemostat to the system, especially focusing on the occurrence of maximal % BOD5 removal. Values of kinetic parameters (substrate removal rate constant, coefficients of decay and growth, and non-biodegradable matter in feed) obtained for each chemostat were found to be different. Overall % BOD5 removals were 62 to 73 for the operating conditions studied; the maximum occurred at a volume ratio equal to 0.8. Experimental findings agreed very well with calculated theoretical values. In both chemostats, experimental % BOD5 removal decreased linearly as BOD5 loading increased. Excellent correlation existed between % removals of BOD5 and carbohydrates. La liqueur bisulfitique résiduaire à haut rendement fut bio-dégradée dans un système de 20 litres, composé de deux bio-réǎcteurs inégaux et en série. L'objectif était d'étudier, pour un volume total donné, la variation de la performance globale de la biodégradation avec le rapport du volume du premier bioréacteur à celui du système, en s'intéressant spécialement au pourcentage d'enlèvement maximal de la DBO5. Les auteurs ont trouvé que les valeurs des paramètres cinétiques étaient différentes pour chaque bioréacteur. L'enlèvement global de la DB05 était de 62 à 72%; et le maximum se situait à un rapport volumètrique de 0.8. Les résultats expérimentaux coïncidaient très bien avec les valeurs théoriques. Dans les deux bioréacteurs, le pourcentage d'enlèvement de la DBO5 décroissait linéairement avec une augmentation de la charge en DB05. On a constaté une excellente corrélation entre les pourcentages d'enlèvement de la DB05 et les hydrates de carbone." @default.
