- W2043708064 abstract "Thirty-two years after exposure to 2,3,7,8-TCDD in an industrial accident in Germany, the adipose tissue of six workers who all developed chloracne and other illnesses following exposure showed an average concentration of 49 ppt. This value is about 15 times higher than current population levels from this country and documents elevated body burden of dioxin in these sick workers after exposure to 2,3,7,8-TCDD. Estimation of mean body burden of 2,3,7,8-TCDD for the six workers at the time of the accident is 44 micrograms with a range of 9.7 to 124. The value of 9.7 micrograms may be near a lowest observed adverse effect accumulation (LOAEA), or body burden, for humans based on current data. Thus, the usefulness of fat tissue biopsy followed by sensitive isomer specific GC/MS analysis is shown to extend over 3 decades after some exposures. The power of current techniques suggest that clinical and epidemiological research as well as evaluation of individual patients should profit by application of these new tools. In addition, medical, legal and workers' compensation cases may benefit by the use of these techniques." @default.
