- W2043818855 abstract "Abstract A low power microwave pulse technique has been developed for the purpose of resolving underlying hyperfine couplings from inhomogeneously broadened EPR lines of paramagnetic bioinorganic complexes. The technique has primarily been applied to bisimidazole ferric porphyrin systems and preliminarily to the Cu A signal of cytochrome c oxidase. Saturating, hole-burning microwave pulses were followed by a field sweep to monitor the spread of saturation away from the original hole. Satellite holes were observed whose splittings have been assigned to hyperfine-coupled nitrogens, protons, and deuterons. Hyperfine splittings for the Fe-liganding nitrogen-14 atoms of imidazole and pyrrole have been observed. Evidence for strong involvement of near protons on the imidazole was found. Detailed dependence of the spectral features on experimental parameters such as microwave power, pulse time, field sweep, 100 kHz modulation, and magnetic field has been investigated. The sensitivity was an order of magnitude greater than CW ENDOR and an order of magnitude less than CW EPR. The spectral resolution was of the order 1.0 MHz." @default.
