- W2043964715 abstract "Abstract Adipsia in chickens was produced with electrolytic lesions in the anterior hypothalamic area. Water was available to the chickens; however, they only pecked at it as though it were food, but they did not drink. After many months of such behavior, the chickens lost all interest in the water and did not touch it. As long as the chickens were force-hydrated through a tube, they ate dry food in normal amounts. Unlike adipsic dogs which rejected plain water but consumed milk or water “baited” with meat broth, chickens rejected milk and 10% glucose. Possible causes of this adipsia are discussed." @default.
