- W2043966510 abstract "Abstract The phenotypic and genetic parameters of fattening and carcass traits were estimated in male and female progeny of beef sires in crossbreeding. The studies included records of between 2711 and 8530 animals. Under farm conditions heritabilities and variation coefficients were lower. Special studies involving progeny-tested subpopulations revealed significant sire × sex/environment interactions. The effect of these interactions was quantified by simulated selection and by use of Falconer's model. The results show that due to the sire × sex/environment interactions the response to indirect selection of the female fattening crossbreds, as measured by the results of their male half sibs in another environment, might only come up to about 50% of the potential response to direct selection of female fattening crossbreds. In this context, sex-limited performance differences are likely to be of importance as well, although they were only studied in combination with environment." @default.
