- W2044178891 abstract "Abstract Two experiments are reported which attempt to clarify earlier differences in results which have appeared in the literature. Experiment 1 included both two- and three-choice conditions in a probability learning task in which children guessed which of two (or three) milk bottles contained a prize. High (trinkets and toys) and low (knowledge of results) incentive conditions were also included. Some support was provided for the previous finding that in this task incentives of high value produce more frequent choice of the high probability alternative than do incentives of lower value. Experiment 2, in which a button-pressing task was used with either two or three choices available, provided evidence of marginal significance of an incentive effect in the opposite direction to that found in Exp. 1. In both experiments, fewer choices of the high probability alternative occurred in the three-choice task than in the two-choice task. Large task differences were also found, with the milk bottle task resulting in fewer choices of the high probability alternative than did the button-pressing task. The relevance of these findings to other studies is discussed." @default.
