- W2044443 abstract "ABSTRACT Within the GAST project highly focussing heliostats have been designed and developed in order to reflect the irradiated sun light into small cavity apertures required by gas-cooled receivers at high temperature. For testing purposes the sun image produced by one or more heliostats are measured with distant camera systems (HERMES, MBB) in terms of its instantaneous intensity distribution reflected from a target plane. This paper describes how this distribution may be interpreted by means of the incoming radiation (sunshape), the structure of the reflecting heliostat surface (curvature, glass waviness) and the actual alignement of the heliostat modules (astigmatic aberration, canting). Each contribution is considered separately and parametrised by an appropriate distribution function. Finally they are composed to a theoretical image on the target plane using the convolution prescription. The parameters which the model functions depend on have a specific physical meaning (appearant sun's radius, focal length etc.) and are determined by adapting to the measured intensity distribution. In this way reflecting systems may be investigated in detail. The optical property without the time dependent astigmatism is usually expressed by the beam quality, i. e. the standard deviation of the angular dispersion of the reflected ray cone. The results of several experiments involving GAST heliostats are: - module of prototype P1.1: 0.83 mrad - prototype P1.1, off axis canted: 1.50 mrad - prototype P1.1, on axis canted: 1.27 mrad - pretestserie heliostat P1.3, on axis canted: 1.35 mrad - 30 test heliostats, on axis canted: 1.30 – 1.52 mrad In addition from the experiment with a group of 8 test field heliostats the pointing accuracy is estimated to about 0.8 mrad. If compared with the standard deviation of the original sunshape found in the range 2.25 ± 0.05 mrad the good optical performance of the GAST heliostats is demonstrated." @default.
