- W2044688520 abstract "Abstract An adiabatic criterion for intermolecular electron transfer is developed to obtain selection rules in terms of the identical transformation properties of one donor and one acceptor orbital in the 4+4 MO approximation. These are examined with reference to the donor-acceptor MO correlations describing “weak” and “strong” EDA complexes and exciplexes, with a view to identifying the type of complex most likely to produce high quantum yields of separated radical ions. Adiabatic (exergonic and efficient) change neutralization channels are available for “strong” EDA complexes, and may be provided by correlation switching via the geminate ion pair originating from exciplexes. It is concluded that certain “weak” EDA complexes, associated with diabatic charge separation and recombination, are the most efficient sources of separated radical ions of high redox potential." @default.
