Through the use of an additional MS/MS technique it has been possible to distinguish between fissioning and sequential decay mechanisms involving the overall loss of two argon atoms in a metastable dissociation reaction. A systematic study of the apparent metastable reaction rates (ranging from −1 to −106 s−1) as a function of cluster size, internal excitation energy (cluster ion production conditions) and time elapsed since the cluster ion production reveals further details of the metastable dissociation process in accordance with recent theoretical predictions." @default.
