- W204492611 abstract "This chapter describes cooperation and planning in school librarianship. Cooperation in librarianship had as its goal the improvement of library service to all. Moran cited several reasons why cooperation in the United States had not achieved the expected result, and he saw cooperation being given a low priority by the uncommitted. However, in school librarianship, there were two areas especially in which cooperation was possible: (1) networking and (2) combination libraries. Countries were reacting to these in a variety of ways, and it was hardly possible to be unconcerned or uncommitted any longer. The influence of technology on librarianship in the previous two decades was extraordinary and to continue to say that makes a truth seem trite. Technology was seen as the practical, utilitarian, implementational activities, and arts of society. In school librarianship, technology, specifically media, had been extremely influential in changing the collections, the facilities, and the roles of personnel in the school library. Cooperation had a rather long history in librarianship if taken broadly in its meaning, but it had only lately become prominent as a means of bringing libraries of different types together and fostering links among national or regional systems of libraries." @default.
