- W2045009369 abstract "Abstract Several profiles overlying chalk of the lower Danian were examined and described adjacent to the northeastern seacoast of Djursland. Samples were then taken from three to represent the horizons and the underlying chalk residue. Two of the profiles have evident B horizons, whereas the third lacks a B horizon. Various physical, chemical, mineralogical, and micromorphological analyses were performed on the samples. Particle size distribution and mineralogy demonstrate that the bulk of the materials in the A and upper B horizons of two profiles differ greatly from the chalk residue. Hence, we concluded that the upper horizons had not been derived from the chalk but were formed in Quaternary glacial till. The various data also showed that the B horizons had evident accumulations of illuvial clay with subordinate humus. The deeper B horizon (B23) of one profile, however, had been formed in residue from the chalk, as had the deeper C horizons. From the relationships among the horizons in the one profile, we concluded that it had a three-stage history. A soil was first developed prior to the Weichsel glaciation, largely or entirely in residuum from chalk. It was then truncated by the glacier without removal of the deeper B horizon. Since the till was deposited, a new profile has been formed with little effect as yet on the old B horizon." @default.
