- W2045184731 abstract "Abstract This paper is intended to explain the mystery of the super-detergency of some nonionic surfactants used by the detergent industry. When a series of pure, narrow range alcohol ethoxylate (polyoxyethylene mono-n-dodecylether) containing 2–8 ethylene oxide groups were used in detergent experiments, super-detergent power was found for the molecules containing 4 ethylene oxide groups at 25°C and 5 ethylene oxide groups at 38°C for nonpolar soil. A solubilization mechanism is proposed to interpret the super-detergent power. Triolein and oleic acid were used as the nonpolar and polar soils. Solubilization of the oily materials was studied using a turbidimeter. The solubilization rate and equilibrium capacity were measured and were found to parallel the detergency of the nonpolar soil. The super-detergent power is linked to a high solubilization volume which is related to the micellar size of the surfactant. One way to achieve super-detergency for nonionic surfactant is to build up large micelles which are effective in solubilization." @default.
