- W2045490265 abstract "Abstract In a study of a selected group of 24 patients with epilepsy the basal electroencephalogram was of particular interest in those cases with a history of automatisms. This report is concerned with the clinical and electroencephalographic findings in the 12 patients who were subject to this type of seizure. Among this group spike activity was present in 10 instances and could be localized to the temporal or basal regions. In 7 instances the origin of the spike activity appeared to be nearer the electrodes at the base than at the scalp. The tendency for this activity to occur bilaterally has been emphasized. Of all the electrodes now applied to the outer cranium the nasopharyngeal and tympanic lie nearest the basilar parts of the rhinencephalon. Such anatomical considerations must be taken into account in inferring the origin of the spike activity in the majority of the cases reported here. Some of the therapeutic and neurophysiological problems pertaining to the findings in these studies have been discussed." @default.
