The carbon results agree with previous measurements in the same proton energy region. The measured inelastic spin-flip probability on sulfur is higher than that reported for any other nucleus, exceeding a peak value of 0.5. A collective distorted-wave Born-approximation analysis employing the full Thomas spin-orbit interaction was carried out. Poor fits are obtained for the spin-flip-probability data when the depth and range of the spin-orbit optical potential are determined from elastic polarization data." @default.
