- W2045607500 abstract "This special issue of International Journal of Andrology contains the proceedings of the 3rd Copenhagen Workshop on Environment, Reproductive Health and Fertility, 15–18 January 2005. The 1st workshop was held 27–30 May 2000, and proceedings published in APMIS (Suppl. No. 103, Vol 109, 2001. ISSN 0903-465x, ISBN 87-16-16462-8). The recent 3rd workshop gathered researchers with different expertise, many of them are world leaders in their fields. The main aim of the workshop was to discuss the recently observed trends in declining fertility rates and a possible impact of increasing disorders of male reproduction. Probably for the first time demographers met with scientists in reproductive medicine and endocrinology, paediatrics, reproductive biology, toxicology and epidemiology and discussed recent declining trends in fertility rates. The special issue contains papers on virtually all aspects of reproduction, including trends in pregnancy and fertility rates, semen quality in various countries, lessons from nature and agriculture, environmental exposures to phthalates and other environmental agents, the role of mixtures of environmental pollutants, environment and germ cell neoplasia and genetic aspects of reproductive function. In addition, it contains a series of papers on the relative role of genetic vs. environmental factors in onset of puberty. Edited versions of discussions following the individual papers are also included in this issue. All papers accepted for this volume have passed the ordinary editorial process of the Journal, including a peer review process. We have not found answers to all complex questions that we discussed at the meeting. We believe, however, that this special issue contains a broad review of the latest knowledge and will serve as inspiration for further studies in this field. We are grateful to Susan Svenningsen from the Workshop Secretariat in Rigshospitalet and Britt Mejer Christensen and Tina Tronier from The University Department of Growth and Reproduction for their valuable assistance. The workshop and the publication have been supported by European Environment Agency, Danish Ministry of Health, Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and Danish Research Agency of Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation." @default.
