- W2045725055 abstract "The effect of aluminum chloride and chlorine reagent on the intercalation of copper chloride into graphite fiber and powder was studied. Reactions under a variety of conditions, including temperatures from 260 to 480 °C, AlCl3/CuCl2 reagent ratios of 0.3 to 0.95, and a range of total pressures and chlorine pressures were examined. Gravimetric and electrical resistivity changes were monitored as a function of reaction time. Analysis of the product properties via X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy has been used to determine the most likely reaction pathway under various conditions. Only reaction conditions which were extremely unfavorable for the intercalation of AlCl3 were not dominated by initial AlCl3 intercalation and indicated participation of the CuAl2Cl8 complex molecule in the charge-transfer reaction. Strong evidence was found for the presence of AlCl4− ions in the intercalation compounds reacted with excess chlorine reagent. All of the intercalation compounds contained substantial amounts of Al, and suffered rapid and significant degradation of electrical resistivity upon aging under ambient conditions." @default.
