- W2045748711 abstract "Abstract Seven sunflower lines were grown on four levels of applied N in a field experiment. The lines comprised two F1 hybrids and their inbred parents and two commercial reference lines. The distribution of dry matter and N between organs differed between the lines. The harvest indices for dry matter and N were higher in F1 hybrids than in their male inbred parents. Concentrations of N in vegetative organs were lower in F1 hybrids than in their inbred male parents, especially at maturity. N concentrations in lower, middle and upper stem internodes, leaves and petioles differed between lines and N treatments. Heterosis over parental lines in nitrogen concentrations did not differ between the two hybrids, except in leaves at anthesis. Heterosis in nitrogen concentrations at maturity responded to N supply except in stems. N uptake after anthesis differed between lines and was highest at the highest level of applied nitrogen. The apparent percentage redistribution of N and dry matter from leaves, petioles and stems after anthesis differed between lines; both were smallest in the inbred male parental lines. High applied N depressed redistribution of dry matter and N. The correlations between N redistribution from vegetative organs after anthesis with shoot N uptake and dry matter redistribution suggest that the lines giving the highest seed yield on the highest level of applied N did so because N was effectively redistributed from vegetative organs to the seeds at the same time as N uptake from the soil continued after anthesis." @default.
