- W2046112942 abstract "Abstract A simple easily accessible in-vitro smooth muscle preparation is described that has several advantages over many other commonly employed smooth muscle preparations. Rabbit detrusor muscle strips that are thin and devoid of underlying submucosal tissue with parallel fiber orientation, of virtually any width can easily be dissected from the fundus of the bladder. This tissue exhibits autorhythmicity, characteristic of most single unit type smooth muscle preparations and can be employed in either isometric or isotonic organ bath recording systems. Although many receptors have been identified and characterized in the rabbit detrusor muscle the exact nature of pelvic nerve or transmural activation of the tissue still remains to be answered. Nevertheless, rabbit detrusor muscle is a smooth muscle preparation that can be used for many pharmacologie studies where a clean thin tissue with rapid responses is desired. An additional feature is that drug actions are limited primarily to the smooth cells and postganglionic neurons since the ganglia lie outside of the in vitro detrusor muscle strips." @default.
